What does it mean to be a teacher?Wat betekendit om n onderwyserte wees?

Anyone can choose to go to college or university, study for several years and get a teaching degree or diploma. Anyone can pick up a book and start reading to a class full of children or walk in a class and entertain children with anything. It doesn’t take much to get children to do what you want them to do.

But being a true teacher is not an art and cannot be taught, being a true teacher is a calling. It is a passion and love for children and wanting nothing but the best for them and you will do anything in your power to give them the very best of what you have.

You don’t give up trying to help them and teach them no matter how long it takes them to learn even the simplest of things. Sometimes you have to keep repeating yourself but you do what you have to in order to help the children to understand even if it’s only one child that requires that extra special attention.

Being a teacher doesn’t only mean you care from Monday to Friday, not at all. You spend free time wondering how you can better the way you teach things and how you can help that one child who is struggling to grasp the concepts being taught. You look into different, fun ways of learning, fun ways of teaching. You are prepared to do anything even dress up like a clown if need be.

Being a teacher you get the privilege of spending most of the day with other people’s children.  At preschools, you get to spend more than 10 hours with some children. On average as a preschool teacher you spend about 7-10 hours with children. So, if you don’t have a calling or the patience it’s not something you should consider doing.

Being a teacher means being a second mom to the children. That means “kissing” their boo-boo’s better if they fall, or wiping away the tear if they are sad and miss home. It means distracting them and letting them know how special they are. It means being able to discipline them in love. It means letting them know you care about them.

I have been working with children since the age of 13 and knew back then already that I have a passion to nurture, teach and help children. There is nothing more beautiful than to make a child smile and see their faces light up with every achievement they make. Children are a true gift.

Here at King’s kid creche I get to spread my wings and teach children how special they are and help them reach their full potencial.

Without a doubt you have explicitly expressed the true meaning of teaching. I have observed teachers at king’skid creche in action- every day my mind is blown away. They way they interact with children from diverse backgrounds, different abilities and development stages. They have created a safety net where each child brings out their best without fear or any reservation. It’s so gratifying to know that there are people like you who are dedicated to stimulating children to learn in a fun-loving way. Kudos to you and team for nurturing our future leaders.
